Collaborative screen time talks

Screen time conversations don’t have to be tense or end in yelling. 😵 They don’t require a formal family sit-down or house meeting.

As the adult, I don’t have to set the rules. I can collaborate together with my young people on how to make space for screens and our other interests. Because some of us in my family get easily sucked in and lose track of time when we’re on various devices (anybody else?! 🥴), we work together to come up with some supports to help us navigate our time.

A few things I love to mention to get caregivers started…

🎭 Screens themselves are not good or bad. I don’t need to assign moral value to screen use.

📐 Boundaries don’t have to be adult-enforced. Young people can set and honor their own boundaries.

🤲🏻 We can support each other, checking in or using other reminder strategies so nobody feels policed by the boundaries set.
