Transformational Caregiving
12-Week Syllabus
Whether you're a teacher, paraprofessional, administrator, or in another education-related role, you are acting caregiver while young people are with you. You will need a solid nervous system.
Here's what you can expect from our 12 weeks* together...
*All courses can be adapted in length and content to meet your individual needs.

WEEK 1
Welcome and Orientation
This first week is about getting you settled and ready for the journey ahead in becoming an Evolved Educator through the 12-Week Transformational Caregiving Process, as designed by Jai Institute and adapted by me, a long-time educator who knows what teachers need. During this session you will start to gain clarity around your intentions and what to expect moving forward into the next eleven weeks of the program.
WEEK 2
Setting Your Intentions as an Evolved Educator
In Week 2, we will explore more of what to expect through the remainder of the 12 weeks process. Together, we'll highlight your strengths and get clear on your values. We will also look at techniques of how to support yourself through the stress and strengths as a professional.
WEEK 3
The 10 Pillars of the Evolved Educator
Week 3 will explore the 10 Pillars of the Evolved Educator who is ready to redefine the power structure in their setting. I walk through the Head, the Hands, and the Heart of the empowered educator. We will explore community values and how to use them as our guide in the shift from power over to trusting the idea of sharing power with the young people in your world.
WEEK 4
Making Sense of Attachment Science
Week 4 will bring us to the exploration of learned and inherited generational patterns of connection, intimacy, and relational safety. How we connect, react, and respond to young people in our life is something that together we can examine, keeping the parts that are working and maybe bringing awareness to areas that are ready for change. In this week, we will name the patterns we're ready to let go of and make a commitment for what it is to be moving forward.
WEEK 5
Making Sense of Nervous System Science
The physiology of caregiving is the cutting edge of understanding our internal world, and the internal world of the children we are in relationship. With understanding, comes calm. With information, comes internal safety. This week we will learn the ins and outs of our nervous system so we can support the budding nervous systems of those in our care.
WEEK 6
Making Sense of Mindsight and Brain Science
Becoming an Evolved Educator includes a deep understanding of the power of the mind. This week we go deep into mindset and explore how our thoughts can expand you, root you, and connect you to yourself and your sense of compassion. We will explore the neurology of empathy and compassion and how we contribute to the brain development of the young people we're sharing space with.
WEEK 7
Making Sense of Emotional Intelligence
The Evolved Educator needs to have a high level of emotional intelligence in order to create harmony among the physiology, brain, and emotions. Understanding emotional intelligence provides both the adult and the young people inner and outer freedom to live whole, full, exuberant lives together. We dive into how we can support emotional development in our settings to maximize the safety and to give young people permission to feel.
WEEK 8
Empowered Conversations
We have laid the foundations of the head, heart, and hands of the Evolved Educator. Now, we move to the voice. Navigating this new paradigm of connection, relational safety, inspiration and presence, requires a whole lot of energy and attention to communication. The shift can be a process that feels somewhat radical and counter cultural on your own. We will begin that process of taking theory and putting it into practice here together.
WEEK 9
The PEACEful Classroom
You’ve made it to the essence of the Evolved Educator! Here we combine everything you have learned so far into the 5-step framework of the P.E.A.C.E. process that will allow you to maintain your balance of power and replace disciplinary methods that just don't work. With the PEACE process, punishments, contrived consequences, threats, bribes, and rewards can be tossed out the window. We review and practice the practical, actionable steps you need to thrive through disconnect, confusion, and overwhelm.
WEEK 10
Exploring Anger and Healthy Aggression
As we continue our way through Transformational Caregiving, we must confront anger head on whether it's your most useful tool or one you use in shame when you're simply tapped out. As an Evolved Educator you won't replace connection with emotional objectivity. We'll work towards building capacity and creating the ability to feel with healthy non-attachment. You'll find your own way to practice and model anger resolution for your community's culture.
WEEK 11
Playfulness and Storytelling
Play is the ace that every educator needs to have up their sleeve. Yet somehow it always seems just out of reach. Together, we will explore your playful inner self, so you can meet your community in theirs. We will examine the 12 play languages, the four temperaments, and barriers that keep us from playfulness.
WEEK 12
Your Personal Transformation
In our final week, we will reflect and celebrate all your hard work! We will reflect on the specific shifts you have made as you employ the knowledge you've attained in the past 11 weeks. We'll reflect how that has influenced the culture of your learning community and your relationships with the young people there. Is there more peace? Is there more joy? This week, we take a moment to look back with deep appreciation at the huge shift that has happened within you.
